University of Gothenburg is one of Sweden’s most popular higher education institutions (HEIs). We are very proud of this and see several reasons for our popularity, notably the high quality of our education and research. Another reason may be that University of Gothenburg is a truly urban HEI.
The Faculty of Science at University of Gothenburg includes all the major subject areas in the field of Mathematical and Natural Sciences. Since Gothenburg is situated on the west coast of Sweden, the city has become a natural centre for research in Marine Sciences. The Faculty is also strong in Atmospheric Sciences, interdisciplinary Life Sciences, Environmental Science and Nanophysics.
Gothenburg University College, established in 1891 by means of private donations, became an independent HEI in 1907. University of Gothenburg was formally founded in 1954. Today, University of Gothenburg offers a comprehensive range of courses and degree programmes, and an attractive study environment that meets high standards.
