Linköping University

Cooperation across subject and faculty borders and an entrepreneurial spirit of education are the hallmarks of Linköping University. The university has innovative and modern departments specialising in both education and research, and has experienced rapid growth in recent decades, leading to a new campus being founded in the twin city of Norrköping.

Research and education are carried out in broad, multi-disciplinary and cross-faculty departments, facilitating cooperation between disciplines and across faculty borders. This, together with ongoing dialogue with industry and society at large, is essential in order to be able to combine basic and applied research in innovative contexts.

There is a clear focus on study programmes leading to advanced professional degrees. An increasing number and variety of programmes at Master’s level are taught in English. Well-structured, integrated and interdisciplinary study programmes form the core of our education.

Organic bioelectronics, nanotechnology and functional materials, medical visualisation and simulation are examples of fields that have been named centres of excellence by the Swedish research councils.

Much of the PhD education at Linköping University is conducted within interdisciplinary graduate schools in areas such as physics and materials science, electronics and automatic control, computer science, engineering design and biomedical science.

More than 1,500 foreign students attend classes at the university each year and over 100 guest researchers a year take advantage of the stimulating research environment at Linköping University.
