The University of Gothenburg is one of Sweden’s most popular higher education institutions (HEIs). The university is situated in the centre of the city, and maintains close contact with society. With 37,000 students we are one of the largest and most wide-ranging universities in Sweden. We know that students benefit from a good study environment, which includes easy access to cultural life, entertainment and the business world. This is one reason why most of our premises are situated in the city centre.
We cooperate with several local major Swedish corporations. The proximity to a large number of leading employers in the region makes it easier for our graduates to find employment. The University of Gothenburg is also active in several global networks for research and education. This enables our students to interact, within both education and research, with some of the world’s most prominent higher education institutions.
The Faculty of Science at the University of Gothenburg includes all the major subject areas within the field of mathematical and natural sciences. Since Gothenburg is located on the west coast of Sweden, the city has become a natural centre for research in marine sciences. The faculty is also strong in atmospheric sciences, interdisciplinary life sciences, environmental science and nanophysics.
Gothenburg University College was established in 1891 by means of private donations and became an independent HEI in 1907. The University of Gothenburg was formally founded in 1954. Today, the University of Gothenburg offers a comprehensive range of courses and degree programmes, and an attractive study environment that meets high standards.
